How we make money.
Short version: you pay us $14.99 a year. That's it. Here's the long version, because you should be suspicious of anyone comparing energy plans.
The only revenue stream
Energy Counselor charges $14.99 for 12 months of access: the full report, unlimited bill re-checks, and year-round monitoring. Membership renews automatically each year at your locked price, and you can cancel anytime in a click. That payment is our entire business model.
What we never take
- No commissions from energy retailers when you switch.
- No referral fees for sending you to anyone's website.
- No sponsorships or "featured plans". Rankings are maths, not marketing.
- No selling your data. We don't even keep your bill, let alone sell it.
Why this matters
Most free comparison sites are paid by the retailers they rank. Some are upfront about it, many aren't. Either way, the incentive is the same: recommend the plan that pays them, from the subset of retailers who pay them at all. A cheaper plan from a retailer outside their panel simply doesn’t appear.
Because our only customer is you, our recommendation engine ranks every plan we have data for by one number: what it would cost your household, computed from the usage and rates on your actual bill. If the winner is a retailer we’ve never heard of, that’s who you’ll see.
Where the plan data comes from
Our first-preference source is the official AER / Energy Made Easy Consumer Data Right (CDR) plan dataset, the same public data that powers the government’s own comparison tool. Every recommendation shows its source and the date the data was fetched.
What if we can't save you money?
The free check will tell you honestly. Some households really are on a good deal. If you’ve paid and the report wasn’t useful, our 7-day refund applies, no interrogation.
